A large contingent of soldiers and ex soldiers (Australian) took time recently to “do the Track to honour those who fought on the Kokoda Track in the 1940s. Wonderful – but when will the country honour the Kokoda campaign.
I recently emailed The Minister for Veteran Affairs and reminded him that the Battle for Australia National Commemoration Day is on the 1st Wednesday in September, that is 5th September this year.
Will there be some recognition in Parliament – as John Howard did on the floor of the House to commemorate Long Tan Day with speeches by the PM and the Leader of the Opposition.
Will there finally be some more permanent recognition of the part the Kokoda campaign took in the Battle for Australia to save us from invasion.
