Glory Days

Yesterday in Canberra as the disgusting information came out of the Australian Crime Commission release of preliminary findings of its 12-month investigation into the integrity of Australian professional sport I was reminded of “The Glory Days” of East Germany when they swept everything before them on the field and in the swimming pool.
And now it’s here. East Germany did it via coaches etc. to gain glory in their Communistic country regardless of the effect on their athletes; these days it’s for the betting barons operating around the world.
What’s the difference?
None that I can see except that these days this disease is more pervasive than ever before and brings in everybody involved in sport. It’s obviously not just in cycling – we have our home-grown drug cheat in Rugby League – remember?
Root it out even if 2013 has to be the year when sport was almost non-existent on the field. Get rid of it and let us return to decency.
