Crisis? What Crisis?

“Don’t think of asking” – Phil Papworth – Sydney Morning Herald, Letter 25th March. The SMH correspondent hasn’t taken his memory back very far if he wonders what the Australian public would do in a crisis here. Just think back to the last John Howard election for the answer. For years John Howard had appealed to the cupidity of the public with tax cuts every election year, funded by cuts in schools, universities, hospitals, etc. But finally the public woke up and in his last election campaign when the John Howard “magic bullet” of tax cuts was offered, the public rejected them.
A dissimilar crisis but the same principle, Phil Papworth.
