Keeping assets in the ground – here

The news about Woodside pulling out, or partly pulling out of the area off the WA north west coast, hit me. If they pull out is this a “North Korea” negotiation, i.e. threaten and then use the pressure of the threats to extract more and more concessions.
My next thought was if they actually pull out we would have our resources still in the ground or in the sea where they belong. Undoubtedly when Woodside denudes some other part of the world of resources they will surely come back to attack our assets.
Our assets will still be here – in the sea or in the ground, to deal with any other development company in the future, if we want to. Maybe we won’t want to but they will still be here and perhaps not in the hands of greedy overseas pirates.
