I lived in the country during the 60s where weight was the criterion for boys playing Rugby League. It worked, with boys of equal weight playing each other. A generation later I saw this dropped in the city with the result that boys of supposedly equal age played boys many kilograms larger. What happened then? Lighter, slimmer boys were getting belted around in a game with some of the boys as heavy as the fathers. Parents objected, the boys lost interest in being kicked around and lost interest and the game suffered. Bring back the weight criterion where boys of equal weight play each other.
