Hands on Heart

For just a few moments recently the two leaders of the main Political Parties, Rudd and Abbott declared a truce at the War Memorial in Canberra celebrating the latest of the campaigns Australia took part in.
However, they obviously have not been reading letters and comments recently about “hands on heart” wherein it has been pointed out that this is supposed to be a gesture covering up medals earned because those they are honouring made the ultimate sacrifice (and they are still alive).
No medals earned; no medals worn; and so hands should have been at their sides instead of using the American gesture which denotes – what? Nothing in this country.
Does nobody tell the politicians about the ordinary rules? Obviously not.
