Long Tan Day and the Kokoda Track

18th August – Vietnam Vets Day commemorating Long Tan Day and well may we celebrate this episode when 18 of our soldiers died. However without denigrating the efforts of the Vets who died at Long Tan could I point out that as far as I know there is no celebration/commemoration of the battles fought on the Kokoda Track (1942) where many, many Australians died. And this campaign incidentally actually saved Australia from invasion – for the first time in our recent history of 200 years+.
Why is this? I have asked this question over the years but have received no worthwhile answer.
