The Vernacular

Please Elizabeth Farrelly (Beards and Blokes: Comment Jan 16, SMH) unless you explain the meaning could you refrain from using the vernacular for ordinary words. It would help people like me who use words as they have been used. e.g. “each time I walk the hood” do you really mean neighbourhood which, of course, could be shortened to “‘hood” (apostrophe included) if you are so inclined. Or is this an attempt to “cosy up” to the locals and be “one of the boys/girls”?
