Time was when university students led social justice activity in this country. Remember the Vietnam War and the War in Iraq? Uni students were in the forefront of the demonstrations and helped change the mood of the population.
But sadly for the past several years they have been comatose – more interested in their own activities and future than the future of our country.
And so I felt buoyed up at this week’s activities in several cities. Are they coming out of their comatose state these young, well educated people who should be the leaders of the future?
I can’t condone extreme action but I do endorse demonstrations and placards and marches even if it’s mainly for their own activities.
Keep it up and start thinking about the future of your country and all the money spent on universities may prove well worth it and the future may look brighter for the rest of us.
