Back to basics – at school

Definitely I agree that schooling should go back to basics in the early, formative years at school (Back to Basics GW July 12) and I suggest that “the basics” should start with “how to hold a pen/pencil” Have you watched children holding the stiletto – sorry pencil – as they learn to write. No flexibility, no control over the implement. First lesson – “how to hold your pencil children”.
The next lesson should return the pronoun “me” to the classroom. It has been banished and we have ugly sentences such as “between kimmie and I we will make a dress”. It may be hard for teachers to teach subject and object and the position before and after the verb, especially if they don’t know the grammar themselves, but – please….
