Did the “brains” contracting out the multi-million contract for submarines for Australia ever think of the following obvious facts: Every person employed at the ship building yards (if the contract were awarded to Australia) would receive a pay from which income tax would be subtracted for the government. Further when the employee took home the balance it would be spent in shops on goods on which GST would be paid. And don’t forget that the superannuation paid by both the employee/employer would go to super funds to buy and build in this country. Oh yes! And don’t forget the flow on (or trickle down effect) in other industries. Has all this been taken into account by the bean counters? Makes you wonder about the politics behind these contracts. Remember the bribery scandal of AWB/Iraq?
