Among the many names suggested so far for the new airport at Badgery’s Creek I have not yet heard one indigenous name.
For sheer musical /rhythm, for words that roll off the tongue, it would be hard to fault most indigenous names and surely the tribe whose country the area belonged to, could stake a claim. After all they occupied the area for how many thousands of years?
Do you know the tribal (Dharug) name for the area of the airport? “Wianamatta” meaning “mother place” is the word in the Dharug language and what better symbolic meaning than “mother place”.
