The Motherland

Could anyone be as grovelling as Australia’s PM when with the UK PM? Jacqueline Maley nailed it: “Here was a true ally – a conservative PM also born in the Motherland” (as was Tony Abbott).
Tony should know more about history and remember what an ally Britain and the PM of the time (Churchill) were in our hour of need in WW2. “If Japan takes Australia we’ll get it back after the war. In the meantime send Australian troops (6th, 7th, 9th Div) to Singapore where they could join the 8th Div in Changi”. Not the exact words of course but the same meaning.
The UK PM will look after British interests as he should; the Australian PM should look after Australian interests as he should – but I won’t hold my breath for that.
