Do we want a Republic? Part 1

There’s a saying:   when a butterfly flaps its wings in New Mexico it causes a hurricane in China…and we saw a variation on that early May (5May?). There was an emergency call from Buckingham Palace for Senior members of the Service to get to Buckingham Palace even though it was the middle of the night. Was it QE2? Was she abdicating or dying? Did we in Australia wanting a Republic, have a plan to cope? But no – in this case it was overkill – it was the Duke of Edinburgh retiring – in some months time – but it surely left  republicans with no idea of what we would do if it had been in truth, i.e. the abdication/death of QE2. Isn’t it time we started forward planning? Once we start, the mechanics of the planning will be formidable, will take months/years at least so shouldn’t we start now to plan for OUR future. One suggestion is a Parliamentary Party, named The Republic Party. We have all seen how successful Pauline Hanson and Nick Xenophon have been in their efforts to make Parties to pursue their ideas so surely the Republic Party could come up with some ideas.   But no odd-balls such as Hanson seems to attract and perhaps no one-state lot as the X-Party attracts. /There’s a saying:   when a butterfly flaps its wings in New Mexico it causes a hurricane in China…and we saw a variation on that early May (5May?).
